Waffle Breakfast Leads Kyle Fowler to Fun Run at Atlanta
Young Driver Enters AMS Winter Race before Getting Back to GAS Action
Doctors agree and have said it for the longest time - breakfast is the most important meal of the day.  But when it comes to heading out to the racetrack to compete against some of the toughest Legends Car fields, deciding over breakfast the morning of the race may make it tough to compete against the stiff competition.
Racers from all over the east coast were preparing for the Winter Flurry event before the NASCAR Busch Series race at the infield quarter-mile at Atlanta Motor Speedway (GA), but former Legends standout Kyle Fowler has been busy driving his Late Model to back-to-back top-10 finishes to start his rookie season in the Georgia Asphalt Series.  The Legends Car remained back at Fowler’s shop during the first few months of the GAS season, but on Saturday, March 17th, Fowler and his team decided over breakfast to break it back out.

With no pressure on his shoulders, Fowler was in Atlanta just to have a little bit of fun.  And even though the finishing results may not show it, racing for the fun of it was the only thing that mattered to Fowler in Atlanta on Saturday.

“We didn’t even know we were going until breakfast that morning,” said Fowler.  “We were all sitting at the Waffle House and we thought about the race in Atlanta.  We figured we’d just go over to the track and have a little fun.

“We were on really old tires, but we were just out there for the fun of it.  It’s good to go out there and just have some fun sometimes.  I would’ve had a pretty good finish, but around lap two all I heard was the rev limiter and I was getting pushed into the grass.  We were running right around fifth at the time.  That kind of ruined our chances of a really good finish, but we still had a lot of fun.”

Fowler is a past champion at AMS for their Thursday Night Thunder and Winter Legends Car Series, so the little preparation time did not faze the 14-year-old.  There were only two reasons to be at the track on Saturday – to have fun and go for the victory.
“The entire reason for us going there was to have some fun and try to win.  I’ve won championships there before, but this time there was no pressure – just try to enjoy the time at the racetrack and try to win.”

Fun and chasing down the win will still be Fowler’s main objective when he returns to Georgia Asphalt Series action on Saturday, March 24th.  The series will make its first of three visits to Watermelon Capital Speedway in Cordele, GA, which is a place that Fowler knows quite well.

“Cordele was the first place I tested with the Late Model and I’ve run there a bunch of times with the Legends Car before.  I think it’s going to take tire management to do well there, but that’s the same thing as all of the Georgia Asphalt Series races.  All the laps I have there should help.  I’ve run well there before, so I think we’ll be pretty good.”

“We’ve got some momentum on our side with two top-10 finishes to start the season.  We’ll just go to Cordele and try to get another top-10.  The track scares some drivers because it doesn’t have a back wall, or any walls around the track except for the frontstretch, for that matter.  That doesn’t scare me at all.  That just makes it more fun.”

Fowler currently sits eighth in Georgia Asphalt Series points going into the Watermelon Capital event on March 24th.  He will be competing for the series’ Rookie of the Year title in 2007, as well as select Legends Car races throughout the Southeast.
