14-Year-Old Recovers From Early Spin For Third Top-10 Finish of Year
Some days, everything can go perfectly for a racecar driver. Usually on those days, the results are impressive. On other days, there can be nothing but problems that typically mean a disappointing finish.
But sometimes, even when things seem to go awry, a little bit of determination and elbow grease can turn things around. Kyle Fowler proved that true grit can bring a day back on the bright side on April 7th, when the 14-year-old started deep (11th) and rallied back from an early spin in the Georgia Asphalt Series race at South Alabama Speedway to finish a solid ninth, avoiding possible disaster several times even after the initial spin.
"I got jacked up by the #22 car and he spun me out," said Fowler. "We ended up on the back of the field. We had a great car and started picking everybody off one at a time coming up through there until my tires started coming apart. My right side tires have a big blister around them about four to six inches wide.
"The car just couldn’t stay down as far as I wanted to then. I just tried to keep digging and try to stay where I was. We ended up ninth which is what we tried to do - get a single-digit finish. The car is in one piece so it’s good."

In order to march back up through the field after his early spin, he still had to steer clear of the madness on the racetrack. He stayed out of trouble on the track to secure his third top-10 finish in the first four races of his rookie GAS campaign.
"In the race, I got some good experience dodging wrecks while coming from the back. It helps having a good car like we had every now and then. I think if we would have had a caution before I got lapped it would have helped, but our tires were coming apart before that I believe. Had I started further up, I think we could have run with the leaders, but I’m happy with where we finished."
Fowler's next GAS event comes April 21st at Lanier National Speedway (GA).
