Fowler Continues Hot Streak With Solid, "Clean" Run At Anderson
On A Tight Track, 14-Year-Old Keeps Car In One Piece And In Top-Five
Kyle Fowler was a little bit worried going into the Georgia Asphalt Series race at Anderson Motor Speedway.  He’s raced at the track before in Legends cars and knew how tight of an oval it was.  In a full-sized Pro Late Model, Fowler knew the race would be a “door banger.”

Thankfully, everything was picture-perfect for the 14-year-old Fowler on Saturday night in the Upstate 100 at the 3/8-mile track.  The GAS Rookie of the Year point leader came home fifth and continued his climb in the championship point standings.

“To come out of Anderson and not have any torn-up fenders or anything, that’s a win for us,” said Fowler, who ran in the top-10 much of the night.  “This track is just so tight, it’s hard to believe that two cars will even fit down the straightaway.  I had a real loose car on top of that, so I was just trying to hang on out there.

“The car was loose pretty much the entire race.  I was just trying to save the right rear as much as I could for the end.  I think I did an okay job of that.  Then, with about 10 or 15 laps left, I just hung it all out to see what I could do.  I got underneath (Joey) Senter for fourth one time, but the caution came out and I thought I had it.  They said I didn’t, but that’s racing.”

Fowler knew what racing at Anderson was like from being there before in a Legends car, but as soon as he spent some time on the track in his #4 Late Model, he knew he wasn’t going to take much from he past experiences.

“A Legends Car seems to be a lot less hectic for a driver here,” added Fowler.  “The racing’s a lot smoother because the cars are smaller and the cars fit better on the track.  But when you put a bunch of Late Models out there, it’s a different story because everybody’s all over the place and you’re just trying to make it through.

Now, Fowler will have a short week before heading back to Peachstate Speedway.  The last night there, Fowler started on the pole and finished fourth.

“Coming out of here with a great run gives us confidence and momentum going into Peachstate.  We had a good run the last time we were there, so hopefully we can go in there and keep moving up in the standings.”

The event at Peachstate Speedway is set for Saturday, July 21st at the Georgia half-mile.
