Kyle Fowler has seen short track racing at two different ends of the spectrum in his last two outings. Just a few weeks ago, Fowler ventured to the .75-mile USA International Speedway in Lakeland, Florida, a track that features high speeds and high-banked corners.
Saturday, Fowler and his family-owned #51F with a partnership with SPEED’s Bob Dillner’s BDI Racing team, were back at a bullring like the young driver grew up on at Dillon Motor Speedway (SC) in an ASA Southeast Asphalt Tour event.
Though they were two different types of racetracks, Fowler’s strategy played out the same in both races. At Lakeland, Fowler worked hard to gain experience at the quick Lakeland track en route to a 15th-place finish. Saturday at Dillon, it was another diligent effort for Fowler, as he had to battle back through the field after a mid-race incident to score a 10th-place finish.
“We missed it a bit on qualifying,” said Fowler of his Dillon experience. “That got us in a hole back there (Fowler started 14th). In practice we seemed to have a car that would race pretty well, so we were not too upset at first. The car got really tight there on that first run so we came in a made a pit stop, and we changed a few things.”

At mid-race Fowler had no where to go when some cars got together in front of him. He got a piece of the action which sent him to pit road for repairs. His team worked hard to get him back on the track to score the top-10 finish.
This was the first race in which Fowler had Bond Suss helping out in the pits. Suss is a former ASA Championship-winning Crew Chief that now helps the BDI Racing team’s efforts on the Super Late Model level. .
“BDI Racing and Bond have helped us out a ton. It’s great to have some help,” said Fowler. “Normally, it’s just me and my dad. It’s great to have help, especially when it comes from some who is really knowledgeable.”
Fowler knows after Dillon that bigger and better things are a lot closer then they have been in the past.
“We have to have to keep practicing and keep working on the set up and I think we’ll figure it out.”
