Kyle Fowler Overcomes Spin to Post Seventh at Lanier
Lapped Traffic Plays Havoc for Georgia Youngster
Kyle Fowler has been knocking on the door to victory lane in the Pro Late Model ranks for several months now. It looked as if the 2nd Annual Ice Cold Shriners Bowl was going to be the backdrop on a potential first win on Sunday, January 11th. After all, Lanier National Speedway in Braselton, Georgia has been the hometown track for Fowler for several years.
Fowler was in prime position to make a run at the win after starting third, but in the late stages of the 100 lap Pro Late Model event, Fowler went for a spin after running up on a lap car in turn two. Fowler rebounded to finish seventh.
“I thought we were going to have it tonight,” said Fowler. “We were running second and it was pretty even between me and Greg Simpson. The lapped car messed us up for a minute and we went for a spin. We had to come from the back after that.”
Fowler had short track veteran Mike Garvey working on top of the pit box at Lanier. Garvey has had lots of success of bringing along young drivers with his car setups and driver coaching and Fowler appears to be next in line.
“Mike has helped us out a bunch,” explained Fowler. “Without him we couldn’t do what we have done. He helps us out a ton. We know what we have to do when we come back for Speedfest in two weeks. We have a few things that we want to try and we’ll change our line a little bit on the racetrack.”
