Kyle Fowler Emerges as Runner-Up From SpeedFest GAS Feature
Pro Late Modeler Comes Out on Top of Last Lap Battle
The 100 laps of the Georgia Asphalt Series feature during SpeedFest 2009 at Lanier National Speedway (GA) were eventful for Kyle Fowler.
Fowler time trialed third for the race and then redrew the pole position for the feature event.  He struggled with the #4 Pro Late Model early on, but came back to finish a strong second after a wild event.

“At the beginning of the race we fell back a little bit,” said Fowler.  “The car wasn't handling exactly how we wanted it to.  I had a bit of a push, then we would get free coming off (the corner).

“As the day went on, we had a right front going down, which in this case helped us more than anything.  That freed the car up a little bit, and as the race went on we were able to work our way back up there.

“We had a bunch of cautions.  Many times we were up along somebody, then the caution would come out.  Overall it was a good run.”

What fans will remember the most about Fowler's race is an action-filled last lap where he battled with Russell Fleeman for the runner-up position.  Fowler came out on top after a little bit of beating and banging, but there were no hard feelings after the race.
“Russell (Fleeman) is a good guy.  He has helped us out a bunch in the past.  I am glad he is a guy that is cool with that (the contact).  I got into him a little harder than I wanted to, but he made a great save.  He is one of those class-act guys.

Since January is still early in the year, Fowler hasn't put together his schedule for the season yet - so when and where his next race will be is still up in the air.

“I'm not sure what our next race will be yet,” said Fowler.  “We're still working on our 2009 plans.”
