We had a great car last weekend. Thanks to everyone at Venturini Motorsports for providing a fast car and to Brennan Poole and David Ragan for assistance on the line. We were able to unload off the truck and run immediately in the top five throughout practice.
Pocono is certainly one of the most unique tracks I have been to and lives up to the name "tricky triangle.” Despite having a fast car, issues soon occurred, starting in qualifying where we lost third gear. However, this didn't hinder our qualifying effort as we ended up sixth out of the 45 cars that attempted to qualify.
I soon discovered how long of a line of cars there was in the race, as we had to make repairs to the transmission and that ultimately relegated us to starting at the tail end of the field.
We were confident we could make it back up through the field. We quickly made it up to the 13th position. Then going down the mile-long front straight, we lost all brakes going into the fastest turn of the track! After a few tense moments I was able to keep the car out of the wall and we continued to run in the 13th position until the next caution came out.
We then came down pit road and discovered that we had somehow burned a hole in the right front brake line. We attempted to patch the car, but we were unsuccessful.
While most teams would have called it quits at this point with no brakes on a high-braking track, we were determined to finish this race as we are running a limited schedule and have had so much bad luck throughout the year. We kept the car in one piece and saw the checkered flag.
My next scheduled race will be Oct.16, at Toledo, Ohio, the last ARCA race of the season.
